An Introduction to Spread Betting

Sports Alive & Spread Betting

Spread Betting is an exciting betting option that can deliver you greater rewards while keeping you involved for every second of every match! Sports Alive is Australia’s leading spread betting agency, offering a comprehensive range of markets on the most popular sports and racing events.

Spread Betting allows you to back your judgement and your pick doesn’t have to win for you to win on the bet. If you think that a player or team will do better (or worse) than the Sports Alive quote, then the more accurate your prediction the more you will win.

Sports Alive offers Spread Betting on most sports and racing events, including:

·    Rugby League
·    Australian Rules
·    Rugby Union
·    Soccer
·    Cricket
·    Golf
·    Tennis
·    American Football
·    Motor Racing
·    Thoroughbred Racing

What is Spread Betting?

Spread Betting is an unfixed bet type that enables the punter to predict an outcome of a match or event and back their judgement against the "Spread" quoted by Sports Alive.

The "Spread" is a scoring range created by Sports Alive on a specific event or match. If you believe this spread is too high or too low you buy or sell accordingly.

Buying: If you believe the Spread is too low then you "buy" meaning that for every point over the spread the result is, you win (or lose) by multiplying your stake by the difference between the top of the spread and the result.

Selling: If you believe the Spread is too high then you "sell" meaning that for every point under the spread the final result is, you win (or lose) by multiplying your stake by the difference between the bottom of the spread and the final result.

Why Spread Bet?

Greater rewards

Spread Betting offers punters the opportunity to back their favoured result and be rewarded the more right they are. Spread Betting dividends are determined by the final margin of a contest multiplied by your stake, therefore your net result will be determined by the accuracy of your prediction.

The Excitement

With Spread Betting, at every stage of a game every point matters! As each goal is kicked or run scored your position changes so you are continually involved in the game. Even in a one sided contest you can maintain the excitement, as you are betting against the spread not just the result! Another feature is trading in and out of the market during a game (see "In the Run")

Bet Types

Sports Alive Spread Betting is available over a range of very different betting options, including:

Totals: Back the spread on a variety of match and series totals such as points scored, corners awarded and games won.

Supremacy: Supremacy betting pits the superiority of one team, person or horse over another in categories including margins and possessions.

Performance Bets: An artificial points scale designed to measure the outcome of an event or contest, Sports Alive offer a range of performance Bets including finishing positions, 100 Indices and Jockey Performance.

Betting "In the Run"

In many of the matches covered by Sports Alive, we offer you the opportunity to bet "In the Run", meaning that you can play in any of the available markets whilst a match is in progress. To capitalise on in the run betting, you can move in and out of our markets during the match or simply close out an existing bet locking in a win or limiting any further loss.

Locking in a win (or limiting a loss) means that after you have taken a certain bet and the spread moves for (or against) your initial position, you can close out the bet and collect the difference between your original quote and the current Sports Alive spread price.

Stop Losses

Sports Alive has predetermined stop loss/win limits set for all Spread Betting markets as approved by the Minister for Sport, Recreation & Racing. For stop loss/win limits on specific bet types please refer to the info box in each live betting market or our Rules of Spread Betting and look under each sport or Contact us.
